Course Description:
This course focuses on cultivating a food-based artistic practice. The Gastronomical Odyssey* guides students into exploring food-based practices within socio-political contexts. The course centers on creating multi-sensory food experiences and designing recipes rooted in the semiotics of food, along with crafting community-based interactions. Emphasizing on Gastro-politics and Gastro-poetics, students explore these concepts across various trans-media platforms. The assignments give precedence to developing skills and understanding in creating a food-centric artistic practice.

In this course, students engage in a comprehensive exploration of food as an artistic medium, delving into its cultural, symbolic, and socio-political dimensions. The primary objective is to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to craft multi-sensory food experiences and design recipes deeply rooted in the semiotics of food. Emphasizing the intersection of gastronomy with politics and poetics, students will critically analyze and apply these concepts to their artistic creations across diverse transmedia platforms. Through community-based interactions and assignments, students develop proficiency in expressing narratives, emotions, and societal reflections through food-centric art, fostering a nuanced understanding of food within artistic practice.
