Artist Statement
As an artist, my creative practice is grounded in a deep exploration of the multifaceted nature of intimacy. Specifically, I am fascinated by both interpersonal and intra-personal connections; I look at interpersonal relationships through the lens of food, and how it created intimate connections between people. As for the interpersonal intimacy, my exploration is mostly with body’s personal relationship with the space it occupies and it’s intimate connection with the textiles it gets in touch with.
Growing up in a South Asian household, food has always been an integral part of my life and now my creative practice. Through my work, I seek to highlight the ways in which food connects us to one another, creating shared experiences and fostering a sense of community.
At the same time, I am also interested in the more internal, intrapersonal nature of intimacy. Through my exploration of the body’s relationship to space and textiles, I seek to create works that invite viewers to engage with the ephemeral impressions left by the body on its surroundings. Through a combination of research, experimentation, and creative expression, I aim to create works that explore the complex, ever-shifting nature of the body’s relationship to its environment.
Overall, my work is driven by a deep curiosity about the human experience of intimacy, and the ways in which our connections to one another, to food, and to our surroundings shape our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world. Through my creative practice, I hope to create works that inspire viewers to engage with these ideas in new and unexpected ways, fostering a deeper understanding of ourselves and our connections to the world around us.
